Alumni Stories

A back view of an exchange student wearing a kimono

"I just used to dream about going to Japan, and dream about studying abroad. I'd just watch videos about other people having an exchange in a different country. Yet now, here I am, not only staying in Japan, but also studying here.

No words can express how grateful l am that I was chosen as one of the scholars of the Asia Kakehashi Project. For the past 4 months, I've learned about not only the Japanese culture, but also the cultures of different countries all over the world. This program broke the stereotypes I had before and made me realize a lot of things."

"I have met so much people in my few months of staying here and I think seeing a variety of characters and getting to know their story has made my time here much more precious, valuable, and worthwhile. It gives more meaning, color, and nuance to the foreign world I tread through each day.

Toyama is a completely different place from my hometown, but I consider both my home now."
